With the rapid advances in computer technology, we tend to replace our computers much more quickly than many other household appliances and old computers are going into our landfills in unprecedented numbers. These old computers take up a lot of space and take a very long time to break down. It has always been our policy to offer to recycle the old computers we replace rather than let reclaimable materials take up space and rot in a landfill. Most people just don’t know what to do with those old computers but we have resources to have them properly recycled. Anytime we assist someone in replacing a computer, or with any other regular service call, we offer to recycle their old computer(s), at no additional charge. Not only is this a responsible way to re-use our natural resources, but it also protects our customers because we destroy the old drives in a way that makes identity theft impossible as the machines go through unknown hands in the recycling process. We destroy any personal data before the machines are repurposed or sent out to be recycled by a company that specializes in this type of recycling. You may rest assured that no computer will ever leave our hands before any personal data is irreversibly removed. We can also retrieve old data for you before the drive is scrubbed, but there is a charge for that service.
Your old computer can also benefit someone who has a great need but lacks the resources to buy a computer. We are working closely with a charitable project called the 2 Pillars Project which exists to bring mentors on the outside to work with inmates at the Perryville women’s prison in Goodyear. You can learn more at https://2PillarsProject.com and your computer can help even if you are not able to participate as a mentor. We take the old computers that may still be serviceable and do a military grade scrub of the drive. The computers are refurbished and reloaded and given to the women as they transition out. These computers are so crucial to find jobs and other resources to help them with a new start in their lives. So you not only protect your privacy and the environment but you are helping someone who needs the opportunities a computer can provide for them. The women we work with are the ones who sincerely want to put their old life behind them and these computers can make a big difference.
